Doyle Stadium is hosting another historic classic in the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series as the Mt. Carmel Caravan face the St. Rita Mustangs for their 101st meeting. This matchup began in 1923 and has been controlled by the Caravan, leading the all-time series 66-33-1, including a dominant 38-7 victory in their last meeting. However, the Mustangs are hungry to close the gap in the “Battle for Chicago.” 

The Caravan have been no stranger to recent success, winning back-to-back 7A state championships and boasting a combined 27-1 record in their last two seasons. St. Rita will look to change the narrative of this series and return to their success from the 2021-2022 season when they made a 7A State Championship game appearance. 

The “Battle for Chicago” takes place on September 6th, 2024, and will be filled with 4,000 fans on the edge of their seats for this thrilling Chicago contest.

The Abilene Eagles and Abilene Cooper Cougars face off in the Crosstown Showdown at Shotwell Stadium on September 6, 2024, as part of the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series. Since 1961, this iconic rivalry has seen 64 meetings, with Cooper leading the all-time series 36-26-1. However, Abilene dominated the last encounter, winning 26-7. 

With 12,000 fans expected, this game will be a spectacle of local pride and fierce competition. The Crosstown Showdown is more than a football game—it’s a cherished tradition that unites the community and showcases the best of high school sports.

Nacogdoches, determined to break their recent losing streak after a 47-28 defeat in their last encounter, enters the game with fervor amidst a packed stadium of 10,000 fervent fans. Despite their uphill battle, the Dragons have a history of upsetting the Panthers, demonstrated by their victories in 2013 and 2014.
