Susan was born in a farmhouse in Middleton in 1927, the second of 7 children. Susan walked a mile to a one room school called Middleton Junction where there were 8 grades and 1 teacher, even teaching 1st grade while she was in 8th. Father Mack came to her farm several times to convince her parents that she should go to high school. She loved school and was elected Senior class president, graduating in 1945. She played 1st base for the softball team for 3 years. All of her children have graduated from Middleton, she is now 91 years old and happy and proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
