Toms River South (NJ)

The fall of 1973…Toms River North takes the lead on a pass play and leads the Indians for the first time 7-0. On the kick-off Toms River South uses a return called “razzle-dazzle right.” Cliff takes a pitch from Bill Conway and scampers down the sideline after a key block by John Weirhenauer for a touchdown. Cliff’s Brother, Ken Scores on a two point conversion and the Indians take the lead. Ken also scores later in the game and T. R. South wins 14-6. The fall of 1974…Cliff played defense for the entire game and the Indians win 17-8. The fall of 1975…the game was scoreless until Cliff scored on a 36 yard interception return in the first quarter. Cliff had another interception in the third quarter to stop the Mariners after they reached toms River South 19 yard line. T. R.South. Cliff was captain of the football team his senior year. He was captain of the wrestling team during his junior and senior years when the team was ranked 2nd in the state with a record of 19-0. He was a two time district champ and a one time regional champ. He was the freshman class president, vice-president of the student council, a member of national honor society, and New Jersey boys state participant. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1980 with a degree in business administration and is a licensed certified public accountant. He married Teri Signoino, the coach’s daughter, and has three children, Mathew, Jason and Jared and daughter-n-law Kate , all Toms River South graduates. He’s also the grandfather of Ella and Sophie.
