Grimsley High School is proud to have our very own Earl Rose as our 2017 -18 GAR Hall of Fame inductee. Earl played in the rivalry game his junior, and senior years. As a junior, he was a backup Center, and Defensive Tackle where Grimsley lost 9-7. In his senior year, Earl had the opportunity to face Page twice. Once in the regular season, and again in the playoffs. Page won both games 27-24, and 23-16, Earl had his best defensive game, even though his primary job was blocking for star athletes like Lamont Wall (Running Back), Jeff Williams (Fullback), and Cameron Wyrick (Quarterback).After 4 years in the Army, and a year at Appalachian State University, Earl came back to Grimsley as the Varsity Running Backs Coach, and JV Head Coach, under Coach Jeff Smouse. He coached in the rivalry game from 1996-1998.
After leaving Grimsley in 1998, Earl went on to play on many various levels, including being the first player ever signed to the Greensboro Prowlers Arena Football Team.
Since playing and coaching for Grimsley, Earl has coached for 22 years, and 28 seasons, including Arena Football seasons, and Fall Football seasons, on all levels of football, to include an internship in the NFL. Earl now runs Football FUNdamentalz 52, where he teaches youth football players, the fundamentals of football. Each summer he holds a 4-day Football & Cheer Camp, at the Greensboro Coliseum.
