This 22 year-old rivalry game was another classic season opener for both schools. A rookie coach and opposing coach with only one year of experience seemed to level the playing field. However, the Westmoore Jaguars had hoisted the trophy for the past eight years, meaning stakes were high for Moore. The 2009 “Moore War” was no different as the streak continued for the Jags with a 19-6 win over the Lions.

GAME SUMMARY

The stadium lights went out after fourth quarter, but for the Moore Lions the game was over way before that. As one reporter put it, “the Lions continue to remain in the shadow of the Jags.” The passing game and spread offense ultimately doomed the Lions from Moore. Great performances were turned in by Jaguars’ sophomore quarterback Trevor Thompson, with 157 passing yards, and junior running back Cody Feuerborn, with 112 rushing yards. The media struggled with who to choose as the game’s MVP; but in the end, the outstanding performance of Thompson earned him the game’s Most Valuable Player honor. Once again, great plays, high attendance and an elated atmosphere made this truly a great rivalry game
