Welcome to Jay Rozeboom Sports Complex for the 65th installment of the “Beef Bowl.” This historic rivalry, found in the heart of Iowa, features the 5-time State Champion West Lyon Wildcats and the 2-time State Champion Central Lyon Lions. The battle for Lyon County began in 1964 and is now one of the most anticipated matchups in the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series.

Heading into this beef battle, the West Lyon Wildcats maintain a narrow 34-30 series lead, but the Central Lyon Lions have done their best to even the series by winning their last three contests, including a tight 7-0 victory last season. The Lions have been sizzling recently with a 25-1 record in their last two seasons, including a Division 2A State Championship victory in 2022.

GAME SUMMARY

The 2024 Beef Bowl displayed what rivalries are all about. From cousins versus cousins to friends versus friends, these two teams put away all relations for this installment of the 21st season of The Great American Rivalry Series. The West Lyon Wildcats started off hot scoring two touchdowns on the ground in the first quarter and holding Central Lyon to only one first down. They would end the first quarter leading 14-0 and duplicating their performance in the second quarter. During this second quarter, West Lyon’s back up quarter back scored on a 25-yard rush and the games MVP, Jordan Meyers, also tacked on his second touchdown of the day. After ending the half down 28-0, Central Lyon looked for a momentum change and found it on their opening drive in the third quarter with a 30-yard pass and catch for a touchdown. Unfortunately for the Lions, the momentum swing would be short lived as West Lyon would score two more touchdowns with their strong rushing attack to close the game out in the fourth quarter. West Lyon would secure a 41-7 victory, snapping a three-game losing streak to Central Lyon.
