Under the Friday night lights at Ken Strong Stadium, Fairfield Prep outlasted West Haven in a hard-fought 17–14 victory that went down to the wire. Prep struck first when quarterback Robert Manning connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to ignite the offense. In the second quarter, Scout Callahan, who went on to earn Great American Rivalry Series MVP honors, powered through the defense for a 42-yard rushing score to make it 14–0. West Haven began to shift momentum late in the half. After blocking a Prep field goal attempt, they struck back with a deep touchdown pass to cut the deficit in half. But with time winding down, Manning led another efficient drive to set up a field goal, giving the Jesuits a 17–7 advantage heading into the break. The Blue Devils continued to battle in the second half, adding a field goal near the end of the third quarter to make it a one-score game. From there, both defenses took over, trading stops and forcing turnovers as the tension built. In the final minutes, Prep turned it over on downs, West Haven punted, Prep fumbled, and the Blue Devils’ last push ended with an interception, sealing the win for Fairfield Prep, who improved to 4–1, while West Haven fell to 3–2 after a gritty rivalry showdown.
