The Waterloo Bulldogs are set to host the Mascoutah Indians at WHS Stadium on October 18,  in a highly anticipated showdown for the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series. This storied rivalry, which began in 1997, has seen the teams go head-to-head 20 times since 2004, with the series currently deadlocked at 10-10. The intense competition and deep-rooted tradition make this game a must-watch for fans of both communities.

Last year’s clash was a spectacle, with Waterloo dominating from the outset. On a cold and windy evening, Koby Osterhage led the Bulldogs with three touchdowns, helping secure a commanding 42-13 victory over the Indians. Osterhage’s early 20-yard run set the tone, and the Bulldogs never looked back, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity.

As the teams prepare to meet again, the stakes couldn’t be higher. With a crowd of 2,000 or more expected to fill WHS Stadium, the atmosphere will be electric. Both teams are eager to break the tie in their all-time series and claim bragging rights. Waterloo, the last school to join the Mississippi Valley Conference in 1997, has built a reputation for tough, spirited play, and Mascoutah is equally determined to prove themselves on the field.

This game is more than just a matchup; it’s a celebration of the rich history and tradition of football in these communities. The rivalry holds a special place in the hearts of the players and fans, symbolizing the passion and pride that comes with high school football.

Who will emerge victorious in this fierce battle? Only time will tell as the Bulldogs and Indians clash under the Friday night lights.

GAME SUMMARY

In the annual battle between the Waterloo Bulldogs vs the Mascoutah Indians, the two teams faced off once again at WHS Stadium. This storied rivalry, which began in 1997, has seen the teams go head-to-head 20 times since 2004, with the series deadlocked at 10 wins each over that time. From start to finish, the game was electric as the Bulldogs got on the board first with a 60-yard touchdown run on their 2nd play from scrimmage. The Indians were not fazed as they returned the favor with a rushing touchdown of their own to answer. The Bulldogs offense stayed hot though, and added two more rushing touchdowns and one through the air to take a 28-7 lead at the half. The Indians came out with vengeance after halftime and popped off a huge run for a touchdown to get right back into the game. Halftime adjustments looked like a possible momentum swing was underway but Waterloo responded back with another touchdown on the ground and it looked like the Mascoutah defense didn't have an answer to stop the Bulldogs Wing-T offense. As the game continued, both teams rushing game continued to dominate. The Indians fought hard to come back and at one point in the 2nd half it looked as if they could, but the Bulldogs continued to pull away late in the game sealing the win with their strong running attack. In the end, the Bulldogs were too much for the Indians and got the "W" with a 56-28 victory and another great game in this storied rivalry.
