This rivalry game featured the state of Iowa’s #1 ranked team and undefeated, Dowling Catholic Maroons, playing against the 2-1 and #4 ranked team in the state, the Valley Tigers. These two (2) high schools routinely meet twice each year, once during the regular season and once during the state football championship semi-finals.

GAME SUMMARY

To the credit of the Maroons there was no quit in their team and they made exceptional halftime adjustments. The “Maroon Wall” held the Valley Tigers scoreless during the second half and the Maroon offense added two (2) more touchdowns to make the final score 24-21. Upset-minded Valley gained a critical first down late in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice and run out the clock.
