It is perfect weather and temperature here in Richmond, VA as the two teams face up to play each other in the first home game at the Blue Devils stadium. The match-up between Varina and Thomas Dale goes way back when they became a Rivalry Game over 25 years ago when they played in the playoffs against one another. Both teams are ready and we are ready for the kickoff.


Maurice Canady


Tony Tate


Tony is a Tate National Honor Student and a 3-year letterman for the Varina Varsity Football Program. He was an honorable mention in All Capital District in both 2009 and 2010. Tony is currently being recruited by several Ivy League schools, including Princeton, Yale and Harvard.
Quinton Taylor

Thomas Dale

Quinton Taylor is a 3-year letterman for the Knights and a member of the 2009 state championship team. He is beginning his 2nd year of starting quarterback and all the while maintaining his 4.1 GPA. He has been a leader on the field not missing a single day of season workouts in nearly three years. Quinton currently has several Ivy League Schools recruiting him as well as a number of D1 AA schools. He hopes to major in accounting.


Cordell Roane


Cordell Roane was a 2-time, 1st team All Capital District, All Central Region and All State performer for Varina. He was the 1997 Capital District, Central Region and All Metro Player of the Year. After high school, Cordell accepted a full athletic scholarship to play quarterback for the University of Richmond. In both 1995 and 1997, he led the Blue Devils to Central Region Championships with victories over the Thomas Dale Knights.
Nick Fleming

Thomas Dale

Nick Fleming played in the rivalry in 2001 and in the regional championship game, in which he carried the Knights to victory with 28 carries for 135 yards and 1 touchdown. He also was the Central Region leading rusher for a career up until 2006, he now holds the regions 2nd all time leading rusher.


First quarter gets underway and comes to an end with teams trying to score touchdowns which results in both teams kicking field goals and the score is tied at 3 to 3. Thomas Dale answers back with a touchdown at the end of the first half to tie up the ball game. Last quarter of the night with Varina kicking a punt from the 50-yard line and lands in the hands of Thomas Dale. Varina then intercepted a play and kept the ball until the end.
