Since the “Battle of Chester” began in 1980, the rivalry between the two schools, separated by just six miles, is led in the all-time series by LC Bird. The Skyhawks have consistently been crowned the champions until an upset in 2017, when the Knights dominated in a 36-6 victory. With a 32-20 victory in 2018, the Knights have started a new winning streak of their own. With the highest ranked APB in the country, Chris Tyree, this season looks even more promising for Thomas Dale.

The stakes were high for this year’s historical matchup between the Thomas Dale Knights and the L.C. Bird Skyhawks. With a rivalry beginning in 1980, a recent Skyhawks winning streak against the long-time champion Skyhawks, and the Knights’ Chris Tyree as the highest ranked APB in the country—tension was high at kickoff. The Knights took a 7-0 lead for the majority of the first half, with Thomas Dale locked into a defensive struggle. However, the Knights came back after halftime with a vengeance. Great American Rivalry Series MVP Jasaiah Williams, along with DeAngelo Gray and Chris Tyree led scoring with 21 points on touchdown runs. Defensively, Thomas Dale excelled too, holding L.C. Bird to only 48 rushing yards on 46 carries and zero yards through the air. This comeback brought the Knights to a 28-0 win, the first shut-out against L.C. Bird sine 1996.
