Bergen Catholic and St. Joseph Regional are historically two of the top football programs throughout the East Coast with future Division 1 college players in each program year after year. The rivalry between these two teams began in 1965, and has maintained intensity throughout the years, with Bergen Catholic leading the series record 32-18. Last year these teams finished #1 and #2 in the state of New Jersey and this year’s match up once again looks to be a deciding factor in the state title hopes for each team!

Bergen Catholic High School

Shane has maintained a 4.0 GPA while completing honors and AP classes. He has been on the Principals List and First Honors since freshman year. With a 1320 SAT score, his combined GPA and SAT score placed him in a Band 4 category, marking the highest academic/athletic band for athletes seeking to attend and play football in the Ivy Leagues. Shane is committed to further his academic and athletic career in the Ivy League at Brown University
Brayden Kelly

St. Joseph Regional High School

Brayden is a tight end for the Green Knights and currently holds a 4.0 GPA, He is the senior class president of student counsel and is also an Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouts. He is undecided on a college but plans to major in business or engineering.

Chris Vialonga and Robbie Zampier

Bergen Catholic High School

This season marks the 30th anniversary of when Chris and Robbie suited up for the Crusaders. Tragically, both men lost their lives during the events of September 11th. Chris was a full-tilt guy, who happened to be a sweetheart, and loved his job on the 92nd floor of the World Trade Center's north tower. A former college football player, he also loved the New York Jets, holding season tickets. Robbie played wide receiver for Bergen Catholic graduating in 1989. He was a 1992 graduate of St. Francis College, and studied abroad in London for a year.
Mark Fossati

St. Joseph Regional High School

Mark graduated in 2014 and was a 3-year starter and senior captain at St. Joe's, helping lead the Green Knights to 3 consecutive state championships in 2011, 2012 & 2013. His senior year, he was named 1st team All-State, All Bergen County, and was awarded the NJ Gatorade HS 'Player of the Year'. He went on to Princeton University where he was a captain and 2x Ivy League Champion. Mark is currently in his first season as a college coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, where his squad currently stands at an undefeated, 5-0.

GAME SUMMARY

This rivalry game between the St. Joseph Regional Green Knights and Bergen Catholic Crusaders began with the two teams quickly exchanging blows and scoring. With some of the best players in the country showcasing their talents in this game, the level of athleticism was off the charts. After the beginning of the second quarter, St. Joseph regional was able to break away can go on a scoring run that Begen Catholic was not able to answer to. At the close of the fourth quarter, the Green Knights had successfully dismantled the Crusaders and won the game with a score of 28-10.
