In the “Battle of Bradenton” fans from the county came out to witness one of the area’s biggest rivalry games as the Southeast Seminoles hosted the Manatee Hurricanes for the 31st time at John Kiker Memorial Stadium, one of the biggest rivalries in the state of Florida. The Hurricanes lived up to the hype as they exploded against the Seminoles with six touchdowns and a field goal on their first seven possessions, en route to a dominating 52-13 game.

Jacob is currently the wide receiver for Southeast High School and has been on the football team his entire high school career. He currently has a 3.97 GPA. Myles is currently a quarterback for Southeast High School and has been a student at Southeast for three years after transferring to us from two different schools. He currently has a 4.4 GPA.
Cord Sandberg

Manatee

Cord is a 3-year starter in football at Manatee and he has committed to Mississippi State. As a junior he was 1st team All State and was Florida’s 7A Player of the Year. Cord will be a 4-year starter in baseball and is considered to be a high draft pick in next spring’s baseball draft.

Adrian McPherson

Southeast

Presently Adrian is in his 5th year of playing quarterback for the Canadian Football League Montreal Alouettes. After graduating from Southeast, McPherson attended Florida State. In the 2000 Rivalry game against Manatee he completed 12 passes for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns helping Southeast to a 48-21 victory over Manatee. Tonight, his parents are accepting his award on his behalf.
Richard Starowesky

Manatee

Richard was an unbelievable offensive guard. The Sarasota Tribune went so far as to name him as its 1984 Offensive Player of the Year. He started in both the 1983 and 1984 Manatee vs. Southeast Rivalry game and led Manatee to a 25-1 record during those 2 years. He started 3 years at University of Florida and he currently is a deputy with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and is the school resource officer at Venice High School.

GAME SUMMARY

Manatee came out with a big offensive line, scoring the first touchdown of the night. Southeast scrambled to give the Seminoles their first touchdown. Manatee scored on all five of its first-half possessions to take a 38-6 halftime lead. Hurricanes looked like they start running down the clock as they held a 45 to 13 lead. The game came to an end with Manatee High School scoring yet another touchdown and final one of the night. The Hurricanes won against the Seminoles for the 6th straight time bringing the final score to 52-13, Manatee.
