In a clash that defines Kansas City football, the Shawnee Mission East Lancers and Shawnee Mission South Raiders are set to ignite once again at Shawnee Mission School District South Stadium. 

As part of the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series, this storied matchup promises another chapter of thrilling competition. With a rich history dating back to 1996, Shawnee Mission South holds a slight edge in the all-time series, leading 30-23 over their rivals.

Last year’s showdown had the stadium pulsating as these two teams left it all on the field. The atmosphere was electric, reminiscent of Kansas City’s football legacy. Notably, Shawnee Mission South boasts NFL alumni like Rodney Peete, adding to the prestige of this rivalry.

Carter, is a dedicated three-year starter for the Shawnee Mission East football team, playing both defensive back and linebacker. Carter is also a four-year letterman for the Shawnee Mission East baseball team. As a junior, he earned Honorable Mention All-Sunflower League honors in football and was named Second Team All-Sunflower League in baseball. In addition to his athletic achievements, Carter is a proud member of the National Honor Society. He will be continuing both his academic and baseball careers at Cowley County Community College.
Brandon Richard

Shawnee Mission South

Brandon, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and a dedicated Youth Court volunteer with 30 service hours. Brandon is also a current varsity football player and a former track runner. He achieved Honor Roll as a freshman and earned Principal’s Honor Roll recognition both sophomore and junior year. Brandon has also been a speaker on the SMSD Board of Education and is a proud recipient of the NAIA Champions of Character award. Currently, he is studying Aerospace Engineering at the Center for Academic Achievement. Brandon plans to continue his education in engineering and business finance at the university level.

GAME SUMMARY

Shawnee Mission South squared off against Shawnee Mission East on Friday night, but the result was all too familiar. The Raiders fell 35-14, suffering their seventh straight loss to this rival—a frustrating streak that continued from their last matchup in October 2021. Despite the defeat, Shawnee Mission South showcased some grit, with Traeh West and Solomon Hirsch finding the end zone. On the flip side, Jack Reeves lit up the field for Shawnee Mission East, racking up 125 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries, while also tossing 7 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. This marked Reeves' best rushing performance since September 2023. Nate Phillips also made his mark, contributing 73 yards and two touchdowns, solidifying the Lancers' dominant win.
