DeLand High School and Sanford Seminole have been battling in football dating back to the 1920’s. The DeLand Bulldogs beat the Fighting Seminoles 28-14 in the annual “Battle of the Bridge” at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium.

GAME SUMMARY

Dontay Dunn ran for 159 yards and scored a TD. Dunn was also named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player. His 54-yard run gave the Bulldogs the lead for good in the second quarter. Gabe Schrade, the Great American Rivalry Student Athlete Scholarship recipient, added three scores for DeLand, which beat Sanford Seminole for the second straight time. Quarterback Newk Tillman threw for 145 yards and a late TD to Milton Williams for the Fighting Seminoles. Around 5,500 fans attended the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps.
