The St. Paul Central vs. Highland Park football rivalry, known as the “Musket Game,” is one of the oldest and most storied high school football matchups in St. Paul. This rivalry began in 1964 and has been a staple of the local sports scene ever since. These games are known for their intense competitions and close scores, with many of these matchups decided by a single touchdown or less!  

The rivalry is celebrated not just for the on-field action but also for the community spirit it fosters. Griffin Stadium, the venue for these games, often sees crowds of 3,000-5,000 fans, creating an electric atmosphere. The Minutemen and the Scots, representing St. Paul Central and Highland Park respectively, bring their best to this annual showdown, making it a highlight of the high school football season. 

Last year, the Minutemen triumphed over the Scots 34-24 in a closely contested battle. Known for its nail-biting finishes, this matchup is one of the oldest and most anticipated in St. Paul high school football, which makes every game the game to see!

Jonah is a full IB diploma candidate, and serves as the president of the National Honor Society. As a captain of the football team and a player for the Highland Park baseball team, he exemplifies leadership both on and off the field. Additionally, Jonah is the founder of Soul Socks, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality socks to the displaced population in the St. Paul and Minneapolis areas. This fall, Jonah plans to apply to Stanford University and UCLA to continue his academic journey.

GAME SUMMARY

In a thrilling football match, the Highland Park High School Scots narrowly defeated the Central High School Minutemen with a final score of 17 to 14. The Minutemen started the third quarter strong with a touchdown, but a fumble and an interception by the Scots turned the tide of the game. Despite a 29-yard gain on 3rd down, the Minutemen found themselves in a precarious 4th and 10 situation with only 29 seconds left on the clock. The Scots sealed their victory with a crucial field goal, and a recovery of a loose ball at the 1-yard line, highlighting the intense competition between the two teams.
