The Rutland Raiders take on the Hartford Hurricanes at Alumni Stadium on October 18th, 2024, in a rivalry that dates back to the 1950s. As part of the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series, this game promises intensity, with both teams fighting for bragging rights and potential playoff positioning.

Last season, Hartford surged ahead with a 27-0 lead at halftime and held off Rutland’s defense in the second half, finishing with a 35-6 win—marking their second consecutive victory in the rivalry. With the schools separated by just over an hour, the stakes are always high, and the atmosphere electric.

Can the Raiders bounce back this year, or will the Hurricanes extend their streak?

GAME SUMMARY

In an exciting matchup at Alumni Field, Rutland defeated Hartford 21-7 in a solid defensive display. In their previous meeting in 2023, Rutland lost to Hartford 35-6. Fans eagerly anticipated this rematch, with local discussions focusing on the changes to Hartford's team after last year's seniors graduated. The stands were packed with fans and had more spilling out into the grass to watch. Rutland, once again, proved to be one of the state's top teams this season. After Hartford initially scored, Rutland responded with some clever plays, including a 40-yard touchdown that shifted momentum in favor of the Raiders for the rest of the night. Scholar-Athlete of the game, Ethan Wideawake, was bigtime on the field intercepting several of Hartford's passes. The MVP award was a tough decision for the media, who considered giving it to the entire Rutland defense for their outstanding performance but ultimately selected Wyatt Fuller for his great game! It was a memorable night for Rutland and all their fans in attendance who witnessed a well earned rivalry victory!
