The South Medford vs. North Medford game is one of the most highly anticipated Rivalry Games in the state. It is a battle amongst teams who share the same football stadium. Nobody wants to lose in “their” house. This game had been won by North Medford the last three years. South Medford was considered this year’s favorite as they have the second highest rated player in the state on their team.

Mauka has a cumulative GPA of 3.988. Mauka has lettered in football last season and is on track to letter this season. He is a 3 year track letter award winner. He was a captain on the track team last season. He has been involved in National Honor Society since his freshman year. He is a member of the interact club and is currently a Link Leader. Outside of school he volunteers at the Humane Society. His future plans are to go to college pursuing a degree in the medical field.

North Medford

RJ is a two year letterman in football, a three year letterman in wrestling, and he has also lettered in track and band. RJ is a member of the torch honor society at NMHS. RJ is a leader in Young Marines where he holds the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. RJ plans to attend college next fall where he is interested in pursuing a law degree.

GAME SUMMARY

South Medford used some early miscues by North to open a sizable 17 to 7 halftime lead. Due in large part to the Panthers controlling the time-of-possession and winning the field position battle. The third quarter was much of the same as South entered the 4th with a commanding lead of 24 to 7. The game seemed to be over, however this is a Rivalry and North Medford didn’t quit . The Black Tornados had a chance to take the lead late in the 4th after coming back to within three points. However, South Medford was able to hang-on and win 31 to 21 ending a three game losing streak to North Medford.
