The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets beat the Murphy Panthers 52-18 in the annual “Battle for the Canon” on Friday night at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. More than 7,500 witnessed the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The winner of one of the oldest rivalries in Alabama (1935) gets to paint the downtown canon in its school’s colors. McGill-Toolen has won three straight to lead the all-time series 48-33-1.
