Welcome to Shields Stadium, where the Maryville Red Rebels will host the traveling Alcoa Tornadoes. In a historic rivalry that began in 1928, this Tennessee matchup is one of over 100 featured games in the 23rd season of the Great American Rivalry Series.
Currently, Maryville is in control of the series with a commanding 67-28-3 record over Alcoa. However, last season the Tornadoes were able to turn the tide with a thrilling 28-21 victory, sealing a hard-fought home win, their first over the Rebels on their own field since 2009. Both programs have enjoyed postseason success, with Alcoa winning 23 state championships and Maryville winning 17. Notable alumni that have played in this series include former Pro-Bowl Wide Receiver Randall Cobb (Packers) who played for Alcoa.
Mark your calendar for August 21st, as 8,000 fans will be on the edge of their seats for the 99th installment of “The Battle of Pistol Creek.”
