GAME SUMMARY

Lufkin dominated Friday’s game against Nacogdoches from the start, shutting out the Dragons 56-0 in the Panthers’ home opener at John Outlaw Field at Abe Martin Stadium. The Panthers’ defense excelled, forcing seven turnovers in two games, including five fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Desmen Hood intercepted a pass and returned it over 60 yards. Kenneth Timmons also had an interception, returning it 49 yards to the Dragons’ 26. Backup QB Quincy Coutee, filling in for Javion Johnson, passed for 103 yards and rushed for 49, including a 38-yard touchdown run. Kenneth Waters led the rushing attack with 132 yards on eight carries, scoring three touchdowns with runs of 64 and 45 yards. The Panthers amassed 318 rushing yards, with 225 coming in the second half. The Panthers have allowed just one score in two games, a 48-yard run on the last play of the first half against Longview. Nolan Hansard was perfect on extra points, connecting on all four attempts, and punted once for 57 yards. Overall, Lufkin’s comprehensive team effort secured a decisive victory in their home opener.
