This year’s meeting marks the 108^th time these two Texas powerhouses will have met. Longview has dominated the series in recent years, but second year head coach at Marshall Claude Mathis will be looking to continue his rebuild of the Mavericks and leap forward with a win over their arch rival Lobos from Longview.

Longview had a hugely successful 2017, eventually losing in the Texas state semi-final. They’ll be looking to continue that excellence and build on it with a win over their rivals, the Mavericks from Marshall.

Brady is a two-year letterman for the Lobos. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the International Baccalaureate Program. He attended Texas Boys State and co-founded the e Bono Club for students to explore lateral thinking. Brady holds a 4.79 GPA and plans to study at the University of Texas.

Terrance Shaw

Marshall

Terrance Shaw was part of a 1990 senior class that never lost to rival Longview during their high school career (three straight victories) at Marshall High School. Terrance, a starting cornerback for the Mavs, was part of Marshall’s 1990 state championship team and went on to sign a football scholarship at Stephen F. Austin State University. Shaw went on to play 10 seasons in the NFL for five teams, including the Chargers, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders. He played in two Super Bowls, including the Patriots' win over the St. Louis Rams in Super bowl XXXVI in 2001.

Aaron Johnson

Longview

Johnson led the Lobos to consecutive state championship games in 2008 and 2009 and was named District MVP, First Team All State, and All East Texas First Team. He graduated from Longview with distinction and was in the top 15 percent of his class. Johnson went on the play at the University of Houston and earned a degree in kinesiology.

GAME SUMMARY

Star QB and son of Coach King, Haynes King had a huge night for the Lobos from Longview against their bitter rivals, the Marshall Mavericks. King rushed for two touchdown and threw for another two touchdowns, helping lead Longview to a dominant 60-14 victory over Marshall. Jessie Anderson became King's favorite target throughout the night, leading the team in receiving with three catches for 79 yards. All in all, it was business as usual for Longview, who have dominated Marshall in recent years and, once again, look to be a force in Texas high school football this season.
