Up until six years ago, these high schools were one – Lakeville High School. Seeing as it’s the fastest growing suburb of Minneapolis, however, they needed to expand into two high schools – South and North. Knowing as the “Battle of the Cats”, this annual match up has turned into one of the most anticipated rivalries in Minnesota. Lakeville South’s mascot is a cougar and North’s is a jaguar.

GAME SUMMARY

Lakeville North entered the game with the confidence that they would win, given the fact that they had a more experienced and seasoned team – they were state champions two years ago. South, however, was hoping that their internal drive and confidence would help them win. Early in the game, South had costly errors, like a safety in the early part of the first quarter, that gave North the quick edge. At halftime, the score was 15-0 with North dominating. The second half started with South making some headway down field but an interception forced the turnover to North. They weren’t able to put more points on the board but did win 15-0. Even with the 32 degree temps and 45 MPH winds, North played their hearts out and won the Battle of the Cats.
