GAME SUMMARY

The long-standing rivalry between Highland Springs and Varina made for an electrifying evening in Highland Springs, Virginia. The first half consisted of both defenses flying around the field. The Varina QB gave his best “now you see me, now you don’t”, and dropped a DIME as the Blue Devils scored to take a 2 touchdown lead! They intercept a tipped pass and take over halfway through the 2nd! Coming back from the half Highland Springers come back swinging. They recover a muffed punt and score with a pass over the middle to open the second half scoring! The end of the third quarter ends with 13-7 with Varina in the lead. In the final quarter, Highland Springs muffs a punt, but their defense holds strong, forcing a punt and hoping to drive and tie or take the lead with 6 minutes left. The Springers end up taking the lead! A huge hole opens up and it's nothing but green in front for a HUGE touchdown run! 14-13 Highland Springs.The Blue Devils didn't back down and respond and on their first play they took a 75 yard pass to the house to retake the lead! Varina leads 19-14, with 50 seconds left Highland Springs drives down the field and retakes the lead with touchdown leaving Varina with only 45 seconds to comeback! Springers take the win 20-19, after a slow half and a marvelous game.
