In a clash steeped in history, the Harlingen Cardinals and San Benito Greyhounds meet at Boggus Stadium on Friday, November 8th for “The Battle of the Arroyo,” part of the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

Since 1923, these Texas high school football giants have captivated fans with their fierce competition. San Benito leads the series 13-9 since 2002 but is looking to rebound from a tough loss last season. Harlingen holds the all-time series lead with a 68-23-10 record. 

With a massive crowd of 15,000 expected, the atmosphere will be electric as both teams vie for supremacy in this storied matchup. This rivalry isn’t just about football; it’s a testament to tradition and community spirit that resonates deeply across generations. Harlingen

Julisses Garza is a standout both on the field and in the classroom. A 3-year letterman on the varsity football team and a 2-year letterman on the powerlifting team, Julisses has proven his commitment and dedication to athletics. Beyond sports, he’s made his mark in other extracurricular competition, achieving a major milestone by winning a state title for the chess club this past May. After graduation, he plans to attend the University of Texas to pursue a career in business, bringing his talents and work ethic to the world beyond high school.
Rolando Garza III

San Benito

Rolando Garza III is a multi-talented student-athlete who excels both on the field and in the classroom. In addition to being a standout football player, Rolando is also a dedicated soccer player and chess competitor. His leadership and academic excellence are evident as he serves as an officer in the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa. Rolando is also involved in several other organizations, including TAFE Purple, the Leo Club, the Science National Honor Society, and he is a NASA Aerospace Scholar. After high school, Rolando plans to major in Aerospace Engineering and pursue a master’s degree. His drive and determination set him apart as a remarkable scholar-athlete.
