This is the 29th meeting of these teams, in what has been named the “Bird Bowl,” between the Harlingen Cardinals and Harlingen South Hawks. The neighboring schools have been battling it out since 1993 with Harlingen currently holding the series record 24-4. Harlingen High Cardinals are coming off a 6-1 record in the 2020 campaign look to continue their 13 game winning streak. Meanwhile, Harlingen South with some rough seasons in previous campaigns they look to flip the script this season and as well as a victory over their rival, the Harlingen Cardinals in the 29th Annual “Bird Bowl”.

Isaiah Perales

Isaiah is a 3 year letterman and a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation he plans to attend Texas A&M in College Station to pursue a degree in Aero Space Engineering.
Marcos Gonzalez

Harlingen South

Marcos is ranked second in his class. He was voted football newcomer of the year as a sophomore in district 32-6A. Marcos is a member of the National Honor Society as well as a member of the Boy Scouts of America troop 142 and is working on becoming an eagle scout. After graduation he plans to attend the University of Texas or Harvard.

GAME SUMMARY

Harlingen South found themselves down early in the first half, but fought back to tie the game 14-14 before halftime. The Hawks would score 14 unanswered and appeared to pull away late. A score by Harlingen cut the Hawk lead to 7 with just a few minutes remaining, but it wasn't enough to claim victory.
