In Friday night’s Great American Rivalry Series matchup the Blue Devils from Grosse Pointe South looked to do something they had never done in the history of the 47-year-old rivalry with Grosse Point North — win six consecutive games against their arch-rivals, this game is known as ‘The Battle of the Pointes’.

Matt is a two-year letterman at South in football. He is an offensive lineman and also a member of the special teams. He is very had working and an outstanding young man. He is a team leader who is very respected among his peers. Presenting his award is Sgt Cocaine, congratulations Cade!
Alex Andreoli

Grosse Pointe North

Alex has played football for 4 years and baseball for 2 years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Young Americans for Freedom. He is a volunteer at Our Lady Start of the Sea Church. He has worked at Merit Woods Pharmacy and has also caddied at the Country Club of Detroit. He enjoys spending time with family and playing activities with his friends. Presenting his award is SSgt Freda Congratulations Alex!!!

John DeBoer

Grosse Pointe South

John played in the North/South Rivalry in 1979 and 1980, where as a senior he caught two touchdown passes against North to secure a 24-7 victory. His senior year he caught 12 touchdowns passes for over 1,000 yards and was named captain of the Free Press All State Team. John accepted a scholarship to play football at Central Michigan University where he was a premier wide receiver in CMU history amassing almost 2,000 yards, receiving on 93 catches and 19 touchdowns. John signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos, but eventually followed his occupational passion as an Accountant at Price Warehouse. John is now the CEO of Xanedu Inc in Ann Harbor Michigan and still resides in Grosse Pointe Farms with his wife Didi of 29 years and his children David, Megan and Claire. Presenting his award is Sgt Cocaine congratulations John!!
Steve Chapman

Grosse Pointe North

Steve played in the rivalry game for 4 years and lead his team to 3 wins. He was an excellent quarterback and captain of the 1996 team that defeated South 38-28 to complete an 8-1 season and a trip to the state playoffs where he lead us to the state semi-finals and an overall record of 10-2 with District and Regional Championships. In his career he passed 385 times and completed 170 for 2,557 yards and 20 touchdowns. He received many honors in all sports as he was an outstanding Basketball and Baseball player. Steve and his wife Megan have two sons Cole and Tyson.

GAME SUMMARY

South was in good position to extend its winning streak to five games until North's Daniel Robinson scored on a fourth-down quarterback run with 52.8 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 20. Robinson then ran it into the end zone on a 2-point conversion to help seal the victory for the Norsemen. Grosse Pointe North snapped a four-game losing streak to Grosse Pointe South via a 22-20 victory at South.
