It was called the “social event of the season” by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, a rivalry that as been going on since 1911. Cars were parked as far as one could see as tailgating began the day before the game. Fans packed Mitchell Stadium to overflow and over 12,000 came to watch the rivals fight it out.
