The Hillsboro Spartans will play their archrival, the Glencoe Crimson Tide, in the 32nd annual meeting between the two. The game will be played at Hare Field in Portland, Oregon, a stadium that the two schools share. This classic rivalry dates back to 1980 when Glencoe High School opened its doors. Glencoe won last season’s battle 33-14 and holds the advantage in the all-time series 22-9.

Quentin Engel

Hillsboro

Quentin is a 3 sport athlete. He plays football, wrestling and golf. He holds a 3.81 GPA and is involved in NHS, Key Club and Student Government. He is an eagle scout and plays an active role in the area by being a regular participant in community service projects.
Michael Schraeder

Glencoe

Michael is a part of both the football and wrestling team. Last year with wrestling he went to the state tournament. In football he was second team all-league. He holds a 3.87 GPA and plans on attending the Naval Academy.

Colt Lyeria

Hillsboro

Colt graduated from Hillsboro in 2011. While attending he played in the 2009 rivalry game. A game that he is remembered for was his ESPN play of the week as Junior, a “Hail Mary” 60 yard touchdown catch. Colt is now a sophomore at the University of Oregon and starting at tight end for the Duck Football Team.
Todd Sahlfield

Glencoe

Todd was a 3-year lettermen at Glencoe High school. He was 1st team All-State as an offense lineman, a defense lineman and team captain. He was also Glencoe’s first ever wrestling state champ at 191 lbs. Todd attended Oregon State where he played from 87-91. Leading the Pac-10 in tackles, he eventually earned a spot on 1st team All Pac-10 as well as the role of team captain. Todd has devoted 18 years now coaching football at Glencoe. The program is very blessed to have him in the program, continuing to lead young men every day.

GAME SUMMARY

While the Oregon School Activities Association "Mercy Rule" was averted, in what was eventually deemed "The Turnover Bowl" (10 turnovers between the 2 teams), Glencoe High School won the rivalry in convincing fashion with the final score of 50-7. Glencoe's running back, Michael Schraeder, and eventual Great American Rivalry Series MVP had the game's first rushing touchdown, and Glencoe never looked back after taking the lead with 6:26 left in the first quarter.
