On November 8, under the Friday night lights at Woodbridge High School Football Stadium, the stage is set for the Battle of the Herb Saunders Trophy in the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series.  

The Gar-Field Red Wolves, holding a razor-thin edge in the historic rivalry series at 30-29-1, face off against the Woodbridge Vikings, determined to even the score. 

Last year’s clash saw the Vikings emerge victorious with a strategic 14-7 win, fuelling anticipation for another intense showdown. Since its inception in 1963, this rivalry has showcased thrilling moments, none more legendary than the 1974 showdown featuring future NFL stars Russell Davis and Jeff Nixon.  

With a crowd of 4500 expected, the atmosphere promises to be electric as these two proud programs battle for local supremacy. Get ready for gridiron drama and unforgettable moments.

Mikal is a model student in the classroom and on the gridiron. Mikal is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and the Green Club. Mikal has maintained an impressive GPA during his academic career while participating in his extra-curricular activities. As an established Linebacker/Defensive End, Mikal is an invaluable teammate! He plans to attend a college in pursuit of biomedical sciences.
Christopher Cherry-Knapper

Christopher is a leader on and off the football field. He consistently demonstrates his leadership, mentorship, and professionalism as a member of the National Honor Society, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), and Pianist. Christopher plans to further his education by attending and graduating from a four-year College and or University with a bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in business administration to position himself to give back to the community, peers, family, friends, and those with disabilities. Christopher has received an offer to play Division III college football representing the class of 2025. Christopher would like to honor this award to his late Nana, Elisa Cherry who unfortunately passed away 12 years ago at the age of 49 from Pancreatic Cancer and she did not have the opportunity to watch Christopher achieve his dreams and aspirations thus far.
