A newly established rivalry will cement their legacy as two St. Louis area powerhouses will take their first battle on the Great American Rivalry Series stage. The De Smet Jesuit Spartans are back for vengeance as they were denied their back-to-back state championship hopes in 2020 by getting shutout at the hands of Raymore-Peculiar. East St. Louis High Flyers set to carryon their momentum from the previous two seasons, winning the state championship in 2019 and a successful 2020 campaign finishing the season at 6-1.

The Spartans of De Smet will march into Clyde C. Jordan Memorial Stadium on the campus of East St. Louis High School for a inter-state showdown for the ages.

On a dreary night in East St Louis, the Flyers used a high-powered offensive attack to overpower De Smet Jesuit. De Smet looked to gain momentum, returning a 97-yard kickoff for a touchdown. However, on the very next possession, the Flyers returned a kickoff of their own the very next play, and never looked back. As Jalen Byrd took home the MVP recording 12 tackles and a sack to lead the Flyers. East St. Louis moves to 2-0 on the season and De Smet fall to 1-1 on the 2021 season.
