First played in 1940, this showdown has defined Friday nights for generations and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, highlighting over 100 of the nation’s most iconic high school football matchups. 

Across 57 total meetings, Highland Springs holds the all-time series lead 35–21–1, but Varina struck back last season with a 28–19 victory, adding more intrigue to this year’s highly anticipated rematch. Beyond pride, the rivalry has produced elite talent, including former Highland Springs standout Mekhi Becton (Eagles), now an NFL super bowl champion offensive lineman.

Through 59 total meetings, Riverdale holds the series edge 33–26, but Oakland has had recent success—including last season’s 36–21 victory, adding even more anticipation to this year’s clash. The rivalry has become a defining tradition in Murfreesboro, drawing thousands each fall to witness the intensity, passion, and community spirit that come alive on Friday nights.

Burbank vs Burroughs

California

Welcome to Burbank Memorial Field, home of “The Big Game” between the Burbank Bulldogs and the John Burroughs Bears. This historic California high school football rivalry began in 1949 and has delivered countless memorable moments. Now in its 77th meeting, it will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series—one of over 100 games honored this fall. 

John Burroughs leads the all-time series 45–31, but Burbank took last year’s matchup with a decisive 42–21 win on the road. Since 2004, the rivalry has been nearly even, with Burbank holding a narrow 11–10 edge. Adding to the drama, the road team has won every game since 2018.

This season, it will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, honoring over 100 of the nation’s greatest high school football traditions. 

These programs have produced NFL talent over the years. Denver South boasts stars like Calais Campbell and Phillip Lindsay, while Denver East has sent players such as Jason Craft to the pros – proof that this rivalry has been a showcase for elite talent. Over the last decade, both teams are 2-2 with East taking the most recent matchup 33-8. The Angels enter this year’s game looking to make it three straight, while the Ravens look to stop the streak and take the decade lead.

Welcome to John McKissick Field in Summerville, South Carolina, where 8,000 fans will gather for one of South Carolina’s most hard-hitting rivalries—the Summerville Green Wave and the Fort Dorchester Patriots. First played in 1993, this matchup has grown into a regional powerhouse clash and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

Summerville leads the all-time series 18–10 and enters this year’s game with momentum—and motivation. The Green Wave are coming off a 5A state runner-up finish in 2024, and they’ve won the last three meetings against Fort Dorchester, including two victories last season, one of which came in the playoffs, 35-13. Both programs have produced multiple NFL talents, including Summerville’s AJ Green (Bengals) and Fort Dorchester’s Carlos Dunlap (Bengals).

Rio Rancho vs Cleveland

Welcome to Rio Rancho’s Ram Stadium located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The Sue Cleveland Storm will travel to take on the Rio Rancho Rams for their 21st meeting in their school’s history. The matchup is one of over 100 featured games in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

This storied rivalry began in 2009, with both teams competing in regular season and postseason play. Sue Cleveland has been in control of the all-time series leading 16–4, as Rio Rancho looks to turn the tide in the series. 

Last season’s matchup saw Sue Cleveland prevail 40–12 in front of their home crowd. The Storm rattled off 12 consecutive victories after dropping their season opener, ultimately securing the 6A New Mexico State Championship. Rio Rancho is coming off an impressive 7–5 season, which included a run to the quarterfinals of the 6A playoffs.

Welcome to West Linn Stadium, just south of Portland, for one of Oregon’s most storied and intense rivalries—the “Battle of the Bridge” between the West Linn Lions and the Oregon City Pioneers. Dating back to 1921, this historic showdown is widely recognized as the longest continuously played high school football rivalry west of the Mississippi River. This year’s game will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, joining over 100 of the nation’s most iconic matchups. 

The two schools have faced off 102 times, with West Linn recently taking the all-time series lead, 51–50–1, after a dominant 63–0 road victory in 2024. The Lions have controlled the rivalry in recent years, winning 12 straight and 20 of the last 22 meetings since 2004.

First played in 1937, this legendary matchup has fueled generations of Texas high school football pride and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, honoring over 100 of the nation’s most storied rivalries. 

Through 78 total meetings, Brownwood holds the all-time series lead 46–32, but Stephenville made a statement last season with a commanding 44–0 victory. Beyond the game, both programs are steeped in championship winning tradition. Brownwood boasts seven state titles, while Stephenville has claimed five, underscoring the pedigree and passion that define this annual showdown.

Since 2004, these fierce foes have squared off 14 times, with Marshfield leading the series 11-3. Last year’s meeting was a hard-fought battle, with the Pirates narrowly defeating the Bulldogs 26-20. Marshfield has had the upper hand in recent years, winning four of the last five matchups and establishing themselves as a dominant force in the series.

First played in 1950, this always competitive matchup has defined Friday nights in North Fulton County for over 70 years and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, celebrating over 100 of the nation’s greatest high school football rivalries. 

Across 69 total meetings, Roswell holds a 38–30–1 series lead, but momentum has shifted in recent years—Milton has won the last six matchups, including last season’s 35–20 victory, after Roswell had previously won four of five. The rivalry also boasts impressive alumni, with Xavier McKinney (Packers) and Malik Willis (Packers) once starring for Roswell, and Peyton Barber (Buccaneers) representing Milton before his NFL career.

Valdosta holds the all-time series lead, 39–24, but Lowndes has flipped the script in recent years, posting a 15–6 record since 2004. The rivals have split their last four meetings, with Lowndes taking last year’s clash 30–20, continuing to build momentum in this historic showdown.

duPont Manual vs Male

Kentucky

Welcome to duPont Manual Memorial Stadium, where the stage is set for the 143rd installment of “The Old Rivalry.” The Male Bulldogs will travel across town to face the duPont Manual Crimsons in a Kentucky football showdown that began in 1893. Known as the oldest high school football rivalry in the state of Kentucky, this matchup is one of over 100 featured games in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

Male has had a comfortable advantage in this series, leading 90–46–6. However, duPont Manual fought back in their last matchup with a resounding 21–0 victory. Their defense was stifling, controlling the game from the opening kickoff and helping them defeat the Bulldogs for the first time since 2013. Both programs have been incredibly successful in the past, winning multiple state championships and combining for 19 wins last season.

St. Thomas Aquinas vs Chaminade-Madonna

Welcome to Brian Piccolo Stadium, where the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will host the visiting Chaminade-Madonna Lions. This battle is one of over 100 featured games in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

In their 2024 meeting, Chaminade-Madonna defeated the Raiders in a highly competitive 29–22 contest. The Lions were led by their strong rushing attack, scoring four touchdowns on the ground. However, both programs are no strangers to elite talent. St. Thomas Aquinas is home to Pro Bowl pass rushers Nick Bosa (49ers) and Joey Bosa (Bills), while Chaminade-Madonna produced NFL wide receiver Marquise Brown (Chiefs).

First played in 1889, this legendary showdown has been a pillar of Baltimore sports history for over 130 years and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, honoring over 100 of the nation’s most storied matchups. 

Across 135 total meetings, City College holds the all-time series edge 67–62–2, including a commanding 40–0 victory in last year’s game. Adding to the drama, City College enters this year riding an impressive streak of 13 consecutive wins, deepening the rivalry’s stakes for fans, players, and alumni.

Allegany vs Fort Hill

Welcome to Greenway Avenue Stadium where the stage is set for another installment of the “Homecoming” game between the Allegany Campers and the Fort Hill Sentinels, one of the most historic high school football rivalries in the country. This rivalry dates back to 1936 and is one of the most highly anticipated matchups in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series. 

Prior to the 2025 matchup, the Sentinels of Fort Hill have dominated the series, winning 21 straight games against Allegany. However, the Campers will look to avenge last season’s loss, which saw Fort Hill prevail with a commanding 48-0 victory. Although Fort Hill has been very successful in recent years, Allegany is also a team with a history of winning. Both teams have claimed multiple state championships and are aiming to repeat their past successes this season.
