This years meeting between the McKinley High School Bulldogs and the Washington High School Tigers marks the schools’ 130th match-up. Football is so important to both communities, to the point that every year, each child born in Massillon, OH is gifted a stuffed Tiger from the Athletic Director at Washington High School.  Thousands of fans will fill the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium to watch players like Mckinley’s Jalen Ross and Massillon’s Jayden Ballard face make their mark in this rivalries history.

Iosefa Saipaia

Canton McKinley High School

Iosefa is a member of National Honor Society and is a 2 year member of Men of Honor. Iosefa also throws the Discus in track and field and the auto body career tech program and has completed multiple College Credit Plus classes.
Anthony Pedro

Massillon Washington High School

Anthony is a member of The National Honor Society and National Vocational/Technical Honor Society. He has earned four varsity letters in football, basketball and track. Anthony is undecided, at this point, of his college selection or major.

Leon Ashcraft

Canton McKinley High School

Leon “Bone” Ashcraft played in three games against Canton McKinley, two during his senior year. In the fabled 100th Game, Leon was instrumental in the Tigers 42-41 overtime win, where he rushed for 109 yards and scored two touchdowns. In the Regional Championship game that same year, “Bone” rushed for 128 yards, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs ended the Tigers season with a 27-20 score. After high school, Leon joined the United States Marine Corps. At the age of 20, Pfc. Leon Ashcraft was tragically killed in a training accident at Camp Legeune, North Carolina, on July 3, 1996. Representing Leon today are his son, Savaun Ashcraft; his partner, Nicole McInnes and his mother, Thomasina Ashcraft-Longshore.
Kenny Peterson

Massillon Washington High School

Kenny played in the McKinley-Massillon rivalry in 1995, 1996, & 1997, helping lead McKinley to victories all 3 years, and a State & USA Today National Championship in 1997. The All-County & All-Ohio selection earned All-American honors in 1997 after posting 101 tackles & 15 sacks. His football career continued at Ohio State, where he earned All-Big Ten honors as the Buckeyes won the BCS National Championship. Kenny played seven seasons in the NFL with the Packers & the Broncos. Enshrined into the McKinley and Stark County Football Halls of Fame, he currently resides in Canton and is the owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes.

GAME SUMMARY

What many call the biggest Rivalry in the country did not disappoint this year. The Bulldogs managed to make it on the board first in the 1st quarter, but the Tigers answered back in the 2nd quarter, gaining a lead at 10-7. The third quarter saw McKinley back on top with a score on a 4th and 1, but the Massillon was determined to take back and keep their lead. They scored two more times in the game, and McKinley never recovered.
