The 2016 Winnersville Classic was a game prime for low scoring struggle between cross town rivals, turned into a all-out celebration. Valdosta closed out the first half against Lowndes with 18 unanswered points, and recovered from a second half opening turnover to score the games final 20 points en route to the program’s 900th victory. The 38-13 victory Friday was the most lop-sided win in seven years. Valdosta became the first high school program in the country to reach 900 wins.

Thomas Eager

Valdosta

As a multi sport athlete, Thomas is also a two year letterman on the varsity swim and baseball teams. He is a member of the Valdosta High’s Beta Club and serves as the president of FCA. After high school, Thomas plans to attend the University of Georgia and Major in Mechanical Engineering.
Tucker Barnes

Lowndes

Tucker is a three year letterman and two year starter for the Vikings. He received Honorable Mention for the All-Region team last year. Tucker is a member of the Beta Club, enjoys hunting & fishing and is a member of Valdosta First United Methodist Church. He plans to pursue a degree in business at college.

Kelvin Miller

Valdosta

Kelvin played in the Valdosta-Lowndes Winnersville Classi c his freshman, sophomore, junior and senior year. Kelvin served as a captain of the 1985 football team. In his senior year, Kelvin made major contributions in stopping the Vikings running back, in addition to having 2 sacks in that game. During the four years on the team, Kelvin had numerous sacks and stops in the Winnersville Classic and served as an integral part of the defense for 1984 State and National Championship team. Kelvin served 23 years in the United States Army with 3 tours in Iraq. He retired as a Sergeant First Class.
Kenny Luke

Lowndes

Kenny Luke was the senior quarterback of the 1977 vikings that beat Valdosta 7-2 for Lowndes first victory over their cross county rivals. Luke had played his Sophomore and Junior years as a defensive starter before taking over the reigns of Joe Wilson Offensive in his second year as head coach. Luke passed for over 1200 yards for the year ranking him in the top 10 of viking quarterbacks. Kenny went on to play collegiate ball at Salem College in West Virginia on a scholarship. The former Plowboy co-captain currently resides in lake park and is employed by Mackey Lumber.

GAME SUMMARY

The Wildcats used a combination of special teams touchdowns and solid defensive plays to hold Lowndes to 13 total points. Great American Rivalry MVP Tevin Gray rushed for 101 yards and scored two touchdowns to secure Valdosta's third Rivalry win in a row against the Vikings. Lowndes QB Michael Barrett threw for 70 yards and a TD.
