One of the oldest rivalries in the Santa Clarita Valley, Canyon and Hart squared off for the 50th time on Friday. Both teams entered Friday’s matchup with a 3-3 record on the year and looking for a signature win. The teams have played annually since the rivalry began in 1969.

Canyon

Ryan is a wonderful young and strives athletically and academically. His determination is showcased in not only his football performance, but also his classroom representation. Ryan is currently carrying a 3.8 cumulative GPA. He is one of Canyon’s starting running backs and most recently rushed for 153 yards in two quarters against Simi Valley.

Michael Uribe

Hart (CA)

Michael has been recognized for several scholar awards in football, baseball, and basketball. He was awarded the Faith Bowl MVP, 1st team all league for baseball and the Principal’s list for his high GPA. Michael is involved in several clubs, such as FCA and SLC and volunteers for The Oaks and Brewline Fellowship. He is undecided on where he wants to attend college but wants to major in business.

Jonathan Jerozal

Canyon

Jonathan is one of our most recognizable alumni within the Cowboy Family. He attended Canyon High school from 2008-2012 and played varsity football from 2009-2012. In those three years, Jonathan amassed a number of school records in total career passing yards (8,178), most career TD passes (77). After Canyon, Jonathan attended Stetson University in Florida. He finished his career there as team captain, which is not surprising based on Jonathan’s leadership disposition. He is currently working for the Los Angeles Kings as an account executive and makes his home in the Santa Clarita Valley.

GAME SUMMARY

The two teams swapped scoring for most of the first half, but Hart moved ahead to a 21-10 halftime lead on a late second quarter score following a Canyon interception. Hart controlled the second half through the air, on the ground and with a strong defense, finishing the game on top 35-18.The game’s Most Valuable Player, Hart’s Da’Von Jones, scored two first half touchdowns to give the Indians the lead for good in Friday’s win over Canyon in the series’ 50th meeting. The Cowboys trailed 21-7 at the break and later cut into Hart’s lead, but could not complete the comeback.
