Despite the unusual circumstances of being designated the “home” team while playing on their rival’s field, Wauwatosa East could not overcome a strong defensive showing from Wauwatosa West on Friday night. The Trojans claimed another chapter in the storied Battle for Tosa, defeating the Raiders 21-7. The game opened with momentum in East’s favor. The Raiders marched down the field on their opening drive and capped it off with a hard fought 12-yard rushing touchdown to strike first. The early score briefly silenced the away crowd and gave East a 7-0 lead. West, however, wasted no time responding. Quarterback Kevin Gibbs- who would later be recognized as the game’s MVP- showcased his dual threat ability by breaking through defenders and rushing into the end-zone to even the score at 7-7. From there the Trojans seized control. Gibbs connected on a 20 yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter to give West the biggest lead of the night. The big play capped an efficient offensive drive and sent the Trojans into halftime with a 21-7 advantage. The second half became a showcase for West’s defense. Time and again, the Trojans’ front line disrupted East’s rhythm, shutting down rushing lanes and applying steady pressure to the Raiders’ quarterback. East struggled to sustain drives, while West leaned on clock management to maintain their two touchdown cushion. When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard confirmed the Battle for Tosa would remain in the West side of town for another year.
