The Battle of the Bone lived up to the hype in their 79 all time meeting. Van Buren came out hot on their first two drives, scoring on both and taking a 14-0 lead. But the Airedales came back swinging, forcing several turnovers and capitalizing through the air and scoring 22 straight points to take a 22-14 halftime lead. Both teams came out of the half with intensity, as both team’s defenses forced turnovers. The Battle of the Bone always comes down to the fourth quarter and this meeting was no different. The Van Buren offense scored with five minutes left to complete their comeback taking a 33-29 lead. With the game on the line, the Pointer defense stepped up and forced two turnovers to close the game out. Van Buren finished off their comeback and retained the coveted “Battle of the Bone” trophy.
