The Dowling Catholic Maroons defeated the Valley Tigers in a hard fought game on Friday night at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in front of more than 9,000 fans. This is arguably the best rivalry in the state of Iowa and one of the best in the entire country. Dowling Catholic has prevailed in three of the past four seasons for the two Des Moines high schools.

GAME SUMMARY

After a 9-3 season in 2012 that saw them reach the quarterfinals of the class 4-A state championships, the Maroons have a great chance at making a run deep in the playoffs in 2013. After a scoreless first quarter Dowling scored 10 straight points before Valley answered with 9 straight to make it 10-9. Dowling stretched the lead to 24-9 in the third quarter and looked to be on the verge of blowing the Tigers out but Valley cut the lead to 24-19. Valley could not get closer with the final score being 37-26.
