Since the “Battle of Chester” began in 1980, the rivalry between Thomas Dale and LC Bird, separated by just six miles, is led in the all-time series by LC Bird. The Skyhawks have consistently been crowned the champions until an upset in 2017, when the Knights dominated in a 36-6 victory. The Knights look to continue their late success and make it four in a row this year in one of Virginia’s fiercest rivalries.
Early in the first quarter Thomas Dale scored a TD plus the 2-pt conversion to open the game 8-0. They followed up by drilling a field goal to take an 11-0 lead as the 1st quarter ended. LC Bird answered with a TD bringing the score to 11-7 in the 2nd quarter. After another touchdown, Thomas Dale took the game into halftime 18-7. In the 3rd quarter, the Skyhawks put up another 7 closing the gap with a score of 18-14. Two touchdowns in the 4th quarter extended the Knights lead to 32-14. LC Bird scored again but Thomas Dale took the victory with a final score of 32-21.
