Welcome to Victor Kreiter Stadium in Highland Springs, Virginia, where 5,000 fans will gather for one of the region’s most hard-fought and tradition-rich rivalries—The Battle of the East between the Highland Springs Springers and the Varina Blue Devils. First played in 1940, this showdown has defined Friday nights for generations and will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, highlighting over 100 of the nation’s most iconic high school football matchups. 

Across 57 total meetings, Highland Springs holds the all-time series lead 35–21–1, but Varina struck back last season with a 28–19 victory, adding more intrigue to this year’s highly anticipated rematch. Beyond pride, the rivalry has produced elite talent, including former Highland Springs standout Mekhi Becton (Eagles), now an NFL super bowl champion offensive lineman.
