On a Senior Night for Grimsley HS that featured their injured star QB being named to the All-America Bowl team and the retiring of the jersey of their legendary NFL player DJ Reader, the Whirlies did not disappoint. It was a tightly contested first half with both defenses making big stops on 4th downs and both offenses struggling to move the ball in the red zone. The first quarter resulted in a 7-7 exchange of QB keeper runs but Grimsley broke through in the air on a 15-yard fade route to take a 14-7 lead into half. Following halftime, however, Grimsley adjusted and scored twice on almost identical fade route passes. Coupled with their stout defense and two forced turnovers, the Whirlies outscored the Panthers 28-7 in the 2nd half and sealed their victory 42-14 to continue their undefeated season as they move into the playoffs.
