The Dunbar vs. Coolidge rivalry game has been played every year to determine the Champs of the DCIAA West Division, which in most cases has determined the Champions of DCIAA. This game was broadcasted live on ESPNU in 2006, which was the first D.C. high school sporting event to be shown live on national television. The game featured Dunbar’s Arrelious Benn, the nation’s top wide receiver and Coolidge’s Marvin Austin, the nation’s top defensive player.

Chrisdeion Alston was born on February 12, 1998 in Washington D.C. He’s currently a senior at Dunbar Senior High School and is the definition of a student athlete. He participates on the track and field team and as well as the football team. He currently holds a 3.25 G.P.A though his first three years of high school and is also a NCAA qualifier. As a junior he showed the leadership qualities to be name the captain of the football team, which is rare accomplishment for a Dunbar SHS football player. He has been the starting quarterback for Dunbar since his sophomore year. His dream is to play football both at the collegiate and professional level, with his education being the top priority. He wants to major in sports management when he attends college.

Ada Delores Mitchell is a distinguished female teacher and athletic coach in the District of Columbia. Ada Mitchell from Howard University receiving a Bachelor of
Science degree in health and Physical Education in 1971. Two years later she received a Master of Science in Health and Physical Education.
Mitchell taught Health and Physical Education at Calvin Coolidge High School for over 42 years. She has coached varsity volleyball, basketball and softball for over 32 years. Her “Lady Colts” softball teams won twelve league championships and eight city wide championships. The National High School Coaches Association selected her four times as the Eastern Regional Softball Coach of the year. She is presently the President of the DC Coaches Association.
Ada Mitchell was called upon by members of the D.C. City Council and the District of Columbia Public Schools to give testimony concerning the status of the Girls Athletics within DCPS regarding implementation of Title IX. In 2011, her health class was featured on Oprah Winfrey’s “O\MN’ network documentary on “Human Tracking. Upon her recent retirement from the District of Columbia Public Schools over 125 for her former students posted messages on Facebook congratulating her and her positive impact of their lives.
Eighty percent of Coach Mitchell’s “Lady Colts” Softball players have matriculated to institutions of higher learning. Coach Mitchell finally realized a dream come true when two of her former softball “Lady Colt” players were appointed to DCIAA Head Varsity Coaches at McKinley Technical Senior High School and Dunbar Senior High School.
Stanford Brown

Stadford Brown was born and raised in Washington, DC. He attended Dunbar Senior High and graduated in 2004. He was a three year starter as an All-League quarterback leading his team to two Championship Titles and earning Pigskin All-Met. He attended North Carolina Central University in the fall of 2004 where he continued his football career, leading the Eagles to back-to-back CIAA Championship titles in 2005 and 2006. He also set CIAA records, as well as HBCU records as a freshman while assisting his team to become HBCU National Champions in 2006. During Brown’s Career at NCCU he received the CIAA rookie of the year, CIAA player of the year, HBCU Doug Williams offensive player of the year, HBCU All-American, Daktronic All-American, and Pigskin All-American. In 2014, NCCU’s 2006 football team was inducted into NCCU’s Hall-of-Fame. He later earned his degree in Mass Communication in 2009. He is currently giving back to his community by coaching and working at his alma mater Dunbar SHS. He has served as the Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Coach for the past 5 years and help the team reach two title in 2011 and 2012. He went back to school in 2013, graduated in 2015 with his MBA in Accounting.
