The 4-5 Dillard Panthers played the 5-5 Mighty Tigers of Blanche Ely in this year’s “Soul Bowl” at Lockhart Stadium. These teams have met off and on since 1962, but the game was not coined the “Soul Bowl” until the 1983 season. Since then it has been a tight race in the series, the Tigers currently lead it 20-19-1 and have won three straight against the Panthers. Its kickoff time here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as two teams are ready for the annual “Soul Bowl” game- which includes taking home the “Soul Bowl” trophy and the glass bowl, as Blanche Ely walks on the field caring the trophies.

Adrian is a 3-year varsity letterman and a pre-med magnet student. He is currently on the top 100 player list in Broward County. Adrian, leads the team in tackles and has a 3.4 un-weighted GPA and has a 1030 on his SAT’s. Presenting the award is Marine Staff Sergeant Blanco… Congratulations Adrian!!!

Johnny Alexander

Dillard

Mr. Alexander played 4 years of varsity football, he never came off the field. He also played 3 years of varsity baseball in addition, he ran track and played basketball. He played in the Florida State Semi-Pro League Baseball. He is enshrined in the Negro League Hall for the state of Florida. Currently he is a Servant to the community and to motivate youth throughout the Country. He also played in the 1961 State Championship, was voted most athletic for the class of 1961. He has been married to Margie Gray Alexander for the past 51 years. Presenting his award is Marine Gunnery Sergeant Lawrence. Congratulations Johnny!!!

Coach Glenn has been coaching football for Blanche Ely High School for over twenty plus years. He is a wonderful mentor to all players and coach. Accepting this award on his behalf is Coach McDoogle. Presenting his award is Marine Staff Sergeant Blanco. Congratulations Coach Glenn!!!

GAME SUMMARY

First quarter gets started with the Panthers punting the ball to the Tigers. Its Tigers ball but it is quickly fumbled back over to the Panthers. The Tigers defense tried to hold strong and not allow the Panthers to score but the Dillard quarterback found the end zone on a 4th down. The Panthers lead 7-0. The Tigers get the ball back on a long kick return to put the offense in a good starting position. But the Tigers lost the ball, allowing the Panthers to score yet again to put the score at 14-0 as the clock is winding down in the first half. Just before the end of the 2nd quarter Dillard High School finds the end zone yet again with the Panthers running in the locker run for halftime with a 22-0 lead. Halftime is over, and the Panthers are ready to finish this game off. The third quarter saw no points as the teams got ready for the 4th quarter. The Tigers came out strong scoring their first touchdown at the beginning of the 4th. They missed the extra point attempt, but it would not have mattered anyway as the Panthers hold on to win 22-6.
