The newest installment of the Cony vs Gardiner rivalry was dominated by the Rams, as they put the finishing touches on an undefeated season. The Cony defense made big stops all game, starting on the first drive of the game where they intercepted a Gardiner pass just a few plays in. The offense would quickly reward this with a rushing touchdown to take an early lead. However, the Tigers would respond fast as a long pass set up Gardiner with goal to go, leading to a rushing touchdown of their own to take a 7-6 lead. On the Rams ensuing possession, they found themselves with 4th and long, but going for it paid off as game MVP, QB Parker Morin, hit his man in stride for his first of 4 passing touchdowns to take the lead back. Gardiner again responded, this time with a field goal, to cut into the deficit, however, that would be their final points of the night. The Rams continued to force turnovers, setting up their offense with great field position throughout the night. The first half was capped off with a Cony trick play where a double pass found an open receiver to bring the halftime score to 27-10. Coming out of the locker room, Cony quickly marched down the field and extended their lead on another perfectly placed deep pass. Throughout the second half, the Rams defense continued to stifle the Tiger’s offense, as they finished the night with 5 interceptions, and closed the door on any potential comeback by recovering a Gardiner fumble in the endzone that brought the final score to 54-10. Cony heads into the playoffs as the number 1 seed with an 8-0 record, as Gardiner falls to 6-2 and hopes to shake off the tough loss and use it as fuel for a deep postseason run.
