Yards were difficult to come by early in this intense rivalry, as both defenses stood firm in a battle of field position. Center Grove kicker Luke Eckert nearly put the Trojans on the board first, but his 35-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter sailed just wide. Unfazed, he booted a 46-yarder and a 29-yarder through the uprights in the second quarter to give Center Grove a 6-0 halftime edge.

GAME SUMMARY

Field goals of 22 and 40 yards by Greyhounds kicker Conner Coghlan tied the score at 6 early in the fourth quarter. But Center Grove quarterback Jack Kellams led his team on a long, clock-eating scoring drive, punctuated by his 1-yard sneak for a touchdown. The score put the Trojans back on top 12-6 following a botched point after attempt. And perhaps more importantly, it gave Carmel the ball with less than two minutes left in the game. The Greyhounds couldn’t respond, and a 3-yard touchdown run by Bailey Bennett in the waning seconds sealed the win for Center Grove.
