As the Batavia Bulldogs prepare to host the Geneva Vikings at Bulldog Stadium on October 4th, excitement is at an all-time high for the 100th edition of the Batavia/Geneva Game. This storied rivalry, dating back to 1912, is one of the oldest in America, drawing a crowd of 5,000 passionate fans each year.

With Geneva holding a narrow all-time series lead of 51-48, the Vikings aim to reclaim their dominance. However, Batavia has momentum, having won the last 14 matchups, including a thrilling 21-18 victory last year where Ryan Boe shined as MVP with both rushing and passing touchdowns.

GAME SUMMARY

The last time that Geneva had taken down Batavia was 13 years ago, in 2011. The athletes for Geneva were in elementary school the last time their school had won, and from the opening kickoff, you could sense that this extra motivation was coursing through their veins. The first half of the game was a defensive battle, with neither team quite able to find sustained success. Each team had their moment, as Geneva took an early drive the distance, that was capped off with a touchdown reception by Georgia wide receiver commit, Talyn Taylor. Batavia was not going to go down without a fight, and responded with a touchdown drive that concluded with a trick play that saw QB Bodi Anderson catching a touchdown pass as time expired in the first half to make it a 7-7 game at the break. However, the second half was all Geneva, led by the game’s MVP, quarterback Tony Chahino. He meticulously marched the Vikings down the field drive after drive, connecting with Finnegan Weppner for touchdowns on 3 them. The Batavia offense was stifled by the fierce defense of Geneva all night, as they could not get anything rolling, seeing each second half drive ending in a punt or turnover. Chahino ended the game 16/29 for 153 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading the Vikings to a decisive 31-7 victory to continue their undefeated season.
