Under the Friday night lights, La Costa Canyon turned in a dominant performance, overpowering rival Carlsbad 50–22 in a game that was never in doubt. The Mavericks came out firing, scoring on their opening drive and quickly capitalizing on an interception to take a 12–0 lead. Their defense then forced a safety, and the offense kept rolling with another rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion to make it 22–0. Midway through the second quarter, LCC struck again on the ground to extend the lead to 29–0 before Carlsbad finally answered with a touchdown and conversion to make it 29–8. The Mavericks wasted no time responding — pulling off a perfectly executed fake punt that went the distance, pushing the lead to 36–8 at halftime. Carlsbad showed fight in the third quarter with another score, but La Costa Canyon’s offense continued to fire on all cylinders, adding a touchdown to close the quarter up 43–15. On the first play of the fourth, the Mavericks’ defense put the exclamation point on the night with a pick-six, stretching the lead to 50–15. Though the Lancers added one more late touchdown, the night belonged entirely to La Costa Canyon, who improved to 5–1, while Carlsbad fell to 4–2 after a one-sided rivalry clash.
