In the heart of Oklahoma, the stage is set for an electrifying gridiron clash as the Chisholm Longhorns prepare to battle the Hennessey Eagles in the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series. Known locally as the “Battle of 81,” this matchup on September 6th, 2024, at Chisholm Football Stadium promises to be a spectacle. With previous years of hosting this Rivalry as the Homecoming game, the atmosphere will be charged with anticipation and rivalry spirit.

Hennessey leads the all-time series 12-6, but the Longhorns come into this game with newfound confidence after securing their first victory in the series since 2019. A raucous crowd of 4,000 fans expected to pack the stands, the stadium will be anything but calm.

The history between these two teams is marked by intense competition and dramatic momentum swings. Traditionally, one team will go on a winning streak for a few years before the other flips the script, adding to the excitement of each encounter. As the sun sets and the lights illuminate the field on Friday night, both squads will leave it all on the gridiron in pursuit of local bragging rights. Fans from both communities eagerly await another chapter in this storied rivalry.

GAME SUMMARY

In a game mired by early Chisholm turnovers and a botched punt snap that resulted in a Hennessey safety, the Eagles jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The final three quarters of the game, however, would be dominated by Chisholm on both sides of the ball. Game MVP and Linebacker, Easton John was a big reason why. He was all over the field with sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception that helped the Longhorns mount a dominant comeback. The Chisholm offense stepped up as well and established a strong running game from both their quarterback and running back positions. The complimentary football played by the Longhorns’ offense and defense led them to a 56-13 victory over the Eagles in the 2024 edition of the “Battle of 81”.
