First played in 1969, this intense crosstown rivalry has delivered decades of passion, pride, and unforgettable Friday nights. This year’s clash will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, celebrating over 100 of the nation’s greatest high school football rivalries.
Cherry Hill East leads the all-time series 32–24 and brought the Boot home last season, snapping an 11-game West win streak with an impressive 28–7 victory. The rivalry’s history runs even deeper, with NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham once suiting up for East and former NFL linebacker Gary Cobb making his mark at West—adding legendary names to this local classic.

Toms River South vs Central Regional

Welcome to Detwiler Stadium on the New Jersey Shore, where the Central Regional Golden Eagles will travel to face the Indians of Toms River South. This is one of over 100 featured games in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series.
A rivalry that began in 1970 has been evenly matched, with both teams tallying six wins in their series since 2004.
Last season saw an epic battle between the two in the Division Title game. The heavy road underdog, Toms River South, upset the Golden Eagles in a thrilling 33–26 victory to secure the division title. Their win was sparked by a first-quarter fake punt pass that went for a 65-yard score, shifting the momentum of the game. Prior to that matchup, Central Regional had enjoyed an excellent undefeated season, winning their first eight games.

Since 2004, Western Alamance holds a 15–10 edge in 25 total meetings, including last year’s dominant 26–0 victory. The rivalry boasts proud alumni who’ve reached the game’s highest levels—most recently, former Western Alamance kicker Josh Karty, who was selected in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft and current kicker for the Los Angeles Rams.

The rivalry is built not only on local pride but also on a tradition of producing top-tier talent—NFL linebacker and super bowl champion Jordan Hicks (Eagles) and 4x pro bowl center Ryan Kelly (colts) both starred at Lakota West before making their mark on NFL Sundays.

First played in 1959, this legendary West Texas showdown will be featured in the 22nd season of the Great American Rivalry Series, celebrating over 100 of the greatest matchups in high school football.
Permian has long dominated the rivalry, leading the all-time series 46–10 and winning 9 of the last 10 meetings, including a 50–26 victory last season. But this game is about more than wins and losses—it’s about legacy. Both programs have a deep tradition of producing elite talent, with numerous NFL players having worn the black and white of Permian or the red and white of Odessa. This rivalry helped define Texas football—and it still delivers on every level.

This rivalry has been incredibly competitive leading up to their 2025 contest. San Pedro currently holds a narrow 43-42-1 lead over Banning. Offensive fireworks were prevalent in their 2024 matchup, with both teams attacking in different ways. The Pilots used their aerial attack to pass for four touchdowns, but the Pirates prevailed 37-26 with the strength of their heavy ground game. Both programs will look to make a statement and take down their rival in this year’s battle.

West Haven vs Fairfield Prep

First played on September 23, 1953, when Fairfield Prep claimed a 13–0 win, this rivalry has grown into one of Connecticut’s most tradition-rich matchups. Over the decades, the teams have battled for pride and playoff positioning, with West Haven holding a 13–3 advantage in the all-time series as of 2012.
Their most recent clashes added fresh intensity to the rivalry. On Thanksgiving Eve, November 27, 2024, Fairfield Prep hosted and defeated West Haven 21–14 in a hard-fought rivalry game. But just weeks later, in a CIAC playoff rematch, the Blue Devils stormed back with a decisive 42–7 victory to punch their ticket to the state championship. These back-to-back meetings underscored just how fierce and unpredictable this series remains.
