For those present, many of whom reside in and around Des Moines, Iowa, it was a long-awaited Rivalry game where Dowling Catholic was looking for some redemption after last years upset where Valley claimed victory. In addition the game was being played in Drake Stadium, which only occurs every two years! To add to Dowling’s motivation, this was their homecoming game. “It’s the most exciting game of the year, every year,” says Valley senior guard John Raridon.

Bryce is a two year letter winner for the Football team and has a cumulative GPA of 4.4 that he maintains while volunteering at local hospitals and churches. Bryce is a member of the National Honor Society and also holds a job after school to help pay his tuition at Dowling Catholic.
Eric Henning

Valley High

Eric is a two year letter winner and starting LB on the 2015 team. He is involved in Track, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Intramurals at Valley. He also works as a Lifeguard in the summer.

Tommy Gaul

Dowling Catholic

Tommy played in the 2007,2008, and 2009 rivalry game between Dowling Catholic and Valley. Tommy was a standout two way lineman his Junior and Senior years at Dowling. Tommy earned all state honors at Dowling Catholic and is considered one of the standout players during Coach Wilson’s tenure at Dowling Catholic. Tommy attended the University of Iowa and walked on as a football player. Tommy eventually earned playing time as a starter during his senior year at the University of Iowa. After earning his degree, Tommy elected to play football in Japan.
Brandon Ellingson

Valley High

Brandon Ellingson played for three years in the Valley/Dowling Rivalry including 5 different games. During the span from 2008-2011, each school won a state title. Brandon, was first team All-State Linebacker and will be remembered for his competitive spirit and dedication t his teammates and Valley Football. Tragically, Brandon was killed in a boating accident just over a year ago. Today his Father Craig are here to accept this honor on his behalf. Brandon Ellingson, 2011 Valley Tiger.

GAME SUMMARY

Dowling Catholic tallied a season-best point total. Jacob Zachary, rushed for 145 yards and a 76-yard touchdown. Tommy Wanek caught touchdown passes of 66 and 15 yards. Dowling turned up the heat in the second quarter, scoring 24 points and holding Valley scoreless. Dowling Catholic moved the ball well in the second half, at one point converting on seven straight third downs. Dowling Catholic won the game 38-21.
